you made yourself
out to be
some hero
bet you think you could
take down the minotaur
or dance with
a beautiful nymph and convince
her that you were heaven
on earth?
you probably think your
very step produces ambrosia in your wake,
consider me your reality check;
i am the valkyrie that will come
smashing down through the forest leaves
from above with arrows sent down
by the moon and sun: my parents—
you painted me the villain
when it was really you,
and i know when i am finished people
may believe your side of the story
despite mine being the one that was the truth;
but let people think what they will
i wasn’t born for their approval—
warriors don’t lose sleep over the opinion of sheep.
